Love Greece in partnership with Love Spain is pleased to present our 2026 Greece Spring Tour itinerary from March 28 - April 4, 2026 below.. The trip will require a beginner to moderate overall level of fitness to be able to complete the trip. All daily routes are carefully chosen for their exceptional and unique beauty and traverse historic Greek countryside. The route, which (see approximate route below for general awareness - wide and closer views - consult Strava for exact routes) mostly circles around the Ambracian Gulf includes three islands starting in Ioannina and heads around the gulf south around to the island of Lefkada by bridge, then north to Preveza and backs south of Ioannina in the city of Arta. The route embraces a lot of the coast with reasonable daily distances and is road bike and e-bike suitable. If you do not wish to bring your own bicycle, contact us if you would like to make a road bike or e-bike rental. Total distance is 386 kilometers (240 miles) with 4,238 meters (14,200 feet) of net elevation gain. Come join us for the adventure of a lifetime!

Itinerary

saturday, march 28

All participants should arrive into Ioannina, Greece where we will be staying the night at the centrally-located Grand Hotel Palladion. You can fly directly into Ioannina Airport via Athens. The Ioannina Airport is 4 kilometers from the hotel. Alternative land transfers to Ioannina may be available via Thessaloniki and Albania. Participants could also choose to fly into other nearby Greek airports (for example, Preveza). Contact us if you require advice on how best and most affordably to arrive into Ioannina. Our hotel in Ioannina will be walking distance from many historic sights including the Ioannina Castle.

sunday, march 29

After breakfast, we will ride 96 kilometers from Ioannina to Amfilochia via Arta. Riders are encouraged to stop en route at the famous Historical Bridge of Arta for a coffee and refreshment. We will be staying right on the coast at the Amvrakia Hotel. The Strava route for the day is here.

monday, march 30

After breakfast we will ride 79 kilometers from Amfilochia to Nidri on Lefkada Island where we will be staying at the Armeno Beach Hotel on the beach in this resort town. This interesting route passes over Cleopatra’s Canal and by the Castle of Grivas, which was originally a Muslim monastery. Then, just before the bridge, Saint Maura Fortress towers over the cyclists on the narrow road leading to the beautiful island of Lefkada. The Strava route for the day is here.

tuesday, march 31

After breakfast, we will take a ferry from Nidri past an island owned by Aristotle Onassis to Meganisi and then ride a 39 kilometer loop around the island before returning to Nidri via ferry. The Strava route for this segment is here. From Nidri we will then ride 20 kilometers south to Vassiliki where we will spend two nights at this coastal resort town. The Strava route for this second ride of the day is here.

wednesday, april 1

Free day based in Vassiliki. We might take a charter boat to Ithaca (photo left) or Ithaki Island which was the home of Odysseus in Greek mythology. At the southern most point of Lefkada is the lighthouse at Cape Lefkatas. There’s definitely something romantic about lighthouses, and this particular one has an uber romantic legend attached.

Ancient Greek poet Sappho, suffering from unrequited love for the sea god Phaon, is said to have thrown herself from the cliffs at the Cape. Sappho was a real person and her love poems were considered some of the greatest of her time. Although many now believe Sappho actually lived to a ripe old age, the legend has survived.

Archeologists have also found the remains of a temple to Apollo close by the lighthouse. So it was in many ways an important spiritual site in ancient times.

Head south from the turning to Porto Katsiki and you’ll see the lighthouse high on the edge of its sheer cliffs, looking out over the Ionian sea to Ithaca and Kefalonia. The epic views match its fabled history. You can’t go inside the lighthouse but it’s a wonderful place for panoramic views at sunset.

thursday, april 2

After breakfast, we will ride 65 kilometers from Vassiliki to Preveza where we will stay at the centrally-located Dioni Boutique Hotel. The ups and downs along west side of Lefkada from secluded beach to scenic village to narrow peninsula of an endless beach promises to be the best route of the tour. Our destination, Preveza, was the ancient city of Nicopolis (Victory City) where Octavias defeated Marc Antony and Cleopatra in 31 BC. Also Paul wrote his letter to Titus from here. Lots of history, charm and good food to enjoy. The Strava route for the day is here.

friday, april 3

After breakfast, on our last cycling day, we will ride from Preveza to Arta where we will stay at the centrally-located Hotel Kronos. En route we will take a diversion on a road similar to the one crossing the Florida keys to see the wildlife of Koronisia. The Strava route for the ride is here.

saturday, april 4

Departure day from Arta - either by land back to Thessaloniki and Albania or by air from nearby airports - Ioannina or Preveza are both options - with memories of all the wonderful sights, sounds, and people we met in Greece.
