Menorca, Mallorca, and Andalucia 2024 Tour

May 30 - June 14, 2024 (full tour)

May 30 - June 9, 2024 (Menorca and Mallorca)

June 3 - June 14, 2024 (Mallorca and Andalusia)

Please check out the daily details of our Love Spain 2024 Menorca, Mallorca, and Andalusia Tour itinerary from May 30 - June 14, 2024 below.  Participants can choose from one of three options that best suit their schedule. The main option is to join the full tour from May 30 - June 14, 2024 beginning in Menorca and ending in Andalusia (Malaga). A second shorter option is to begin in Menorca on May 30, 2024 and fly out from Mallorca on June 9, foregoing the final part of the tour in Andalusia. A third option is to join the tour after it has started by arriving directly into Mallorca no later than mid-afternoon on June 3, 2024 and staying through to the end in Andalusia (Malaga) on June 14, 2024. The full route on Menorca, Mallorca, and Andalucia over ten cycling days totals approximately 760 kilometers and 10,700 meters of net climbing, which averages out to 76 kilometers per cycling day, which is less than we usually do, but is offset by an uptick in net climbing. On cycling days, those who do not wish to cycle will experience intense cultural engagement and a chance to walk around and explore the places we are visiting. The trip caters to cyclists and cultural tourists alike. Tourists will have their own full activities along the way with tourism opportunities and cultural engagement facilitated at each site. Anyone with a moderate level of fitness should be able to complete the trip. All daily routes are carefully chosen for their exceptional and unique beauty and overall interest. We are doing many of the most famous bicycle routes in the world. Rest days are interspersed so everyone has a chance to enjoy the many splendid beaches and sights along the way.  Road bicycles are strongly recommended.  We will be staying at many beautiful hotels and you will have a great chance to explore on Menorca, Mallorca, and in Andalusia. All three areas are a tourist and cycling paradise. Accommodations throughout are centrally located and extraordinarily relaxing allowing you to mix biking, great scenery, tourist attractions, comfort, and a great cause! Approximately 300 USD of each registrant’s fee will go to support the Mosaico Cultural Center.

Itinerary

thursday, MAY 30

All participants should arrive at our hotel in Menorca by early to mid afternoon. We will be staying at two rural hotels within a 10 to 15 minute drive from the Menorca airport. One of the possibilities is the Hotel Rural Biniarroca. We will meet around dinner to get organized and get the bikes ready for the following day. This will be our base for four nights, so tourists will have ample time to explore all the beaches, nooks, and crannies of Menorca! Here is a link to the Top Ten Things to Do on Menorca.

FRIDAY, MAY 31

After breakfast, cyclists will depart for a 79-kilometer loop ride around the eastern side of Menorca, passing various beaches and stopping at the Favaritx Lighthouse along the way. This ride (#3) is described in this article on the Top 20 Most Beautiful Road Cycling Routes on Menorca. Check out the Strava route for the day here. Tourists will have a day to kick back at their leisure or go exploring as well. The sun, the sea, the beautiful landscapes . . .

SATURDAY, June 1

After breakfast we will ride west from our hotel, doing a 75-kilometer loop ride based on ride #4 of the Top 20 Most Beautiful Road Cycling Routes on Menorca. Just over halfway into the ride, we will make the steep climb to the highest point on the island, the Monte Toro, at 335 meters above sea level. There is a panoramic view of the island and a cafe at the top! The Strava route for the day is here. The tourist group may choose to meet the cyclists at the cafe at the top of Monte Toro and/or explore other parts of the island.

SUNDAY, June 2

Rest day on Menorca. Time to enjoy the beach, going for a walk in the hills, swimming in the pool, going to the spa, or just kicking back and taking a siesta with little round cucumber slices covering your eyes. Add lemon slices for some tang. If you are in the mood, join the locals at a fiesta.

MONDAY, june 3

We say goodbye to our Menorca home and cycle 50 kilometers west across the island to the ferry port at Ciutadella de Menorca to catch the noon 75-minute transfer to Mallorca. You can ride your bikes on and off the ferry. Tourists will be transported in our vehicles. The Strava route for the cross-island jaunt to the ferry is here. Once we arrive at the port of Alcudia on northern side of Mallorca, we will have a further six-kilometer ride to our lodging for the subsequent three nights, the PortBlue Club Pollentia Resort & Spa. The Strava route for the six-kilometer ride from the ferry port to the hotel is here.

TUESDAY, June 4

The north coast of Mallorca is filled with fun! A great day trip is 25 kilometers out to the spectacular Formentor Lighthouse. Cyclists will ride the 50 kilometers out and back from the hotel. The Strava route is here. Don’t be fooled by the short distance - there is some challenging climbing. This Cap de Formentor ride is rated #2 on the Top Ten Road Cycling Routes on Mallorca. In addition to visiting the lighthouse, tourists have a wide variety of things to choose from. Check out this listing of Top Things to See in Northern Mallorca.

WEDNESDAY, june 5

Cyclists undertake the 79 kilometer Port Pollenca & Sa Batalla Loop (adding on Cala Sant Vincenc), the #10 rated route on the Top Ten Road Cycling Routes on Mallorca. It’s a gorgeous route that winds through picturesque small towns and then climbs up into the northern Tramuntana mountain range before descending back to the coast near our hotel. The Strava route is here. Tourists have one final day to explore the wonders of northern Mallorca!

THURSDAY, june 6

We depart our northern Mallorca base and head 114 kilometers south across the island, detouring slightly to taken in the Palma de Mallorca beach strip which makes for a great lunch stop due to the wide variety of establishments (and tourists). We then proceed west through Palma until we reach Peguera beach where we will be booking a convenient hotel close to the beach and multiple local attractions. Here is a list of the Top Things to See and Do in Peguera. The Strava route for the day is here.

FRIDAY, june 7

Rest day in Peguera. Kick back and enjoy at the beach, in the mountains, wherever you want to go in the area. Many good restaurants in the area and the beach a stone’s throw away. Enjoy!!

SATURDAY, june 8

Back by popular demand, cyclists will ride the 70 kilometer Southern Tramuntana Mountain Loop rated the #1 most beautiful ride on the island by the Top Ten Road Cycling Routes on Mallorca. This was our final ride on the Love Spain 2023 Tour. The difference this time is that we will be doing the ride starting in the south and riding in a clockwise direction, while in 2023 we started at the northern end of the loop and rode it in a counter-clockwise direction. The Strava route for the day is here. On the final full day in southern Mallorca, tourists may enjoy a shopping visit to the beautiful town of Soller. A trip into Palma is also possible.

SUNDAY, june 9

All those continuing on to Andalusia will take a noon flight from Palma de Mallorca direct to Granada, arriving at approximately 1:30 pm. All vehicles, bikes, and luggage, will leave from Mallorca on an early morning ferry and should be in Granada about 7 pm with the luggage. In the afternoon, all participants will have an opportunity to tour the Alhambra palace (left) - one of the wonders of the world. Our lodging for two nights will be the Aurea Catedral by Eurostars Hotel, which is just off the plaza in front of the Granada Cathedral where King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella are buried. This is convenient walking distance to all of Granada’s main sights.

MONDAY, june 10

Just after breakfast, cyclists will depart for an 83 kilometer ride up to Pico Veleta pass in the Sierra Nevada mountains and then back down again on a somewhat different route. At 3,398 meters above sea level (11,148 ft), this is Europe’s highest paved road and consequently Europe’s highest cycling climb. We, however, will only be cycling up to approximately 2,600 meters to a ski station and where there is a barrier that closes off the road to cars (but not to cyclists). Intrepid cyclists in our group may choose to go higher if the snow is cleared, although the road quality deteriorates substantially and the effects of altitude kick in a lot more. Click here for more information about the Pico Veleta climb. Our Strava route for the day is here. Tourists will enjoy a free day to explore Granada. In the evening we will likely plan a dinner at a local tea house followed by an early evening Flamenco showing in a local cave.

TUESDAY, june 11

After breakfast, cyclists will head south out of Granada for the coast and after 97 kilometers arrive at our destination in the coastal resort town of Nerja. After an initial climb, we will drop down a spectacular descent on a small road we have never taken before called the Goat’s Path. For more information about this descent/climb, click here. Our Strava route for the day is here. We will all be staying the night at the Parador de Nerja. Nerja is a coastal resort town with caves and beaches to explore.

WEDNESDAY, june 12

On our final cycling day we will be taking a scenic, relatively easy 55 kilometer coastal ride along the Mediterranean coast until we reach our final destination, Malaga, where we will spend our last two nights at the Parador de Malaga Gibralfaro. We will try to work it so all cyclists ride in together - having accomplished a great feat together. The Strava route for the day is here. Our hotel is in walking distance to many interesting local sights in Malaga and overlooks the city’s bullring.

THURSDAY, june 13

On our final full day on the trip, participants can choose to relax and enjoy the view of Malaga from the hotel, pack bags and bicycles, and take part in various planned activities until we meet together for an evening meal out on the town in Malaga. We are planning several special things that are not yet confirmed.

FRIDAY, June 14

Everyone flies out of Malaga which has quick and easy connections to multiple points in Europe for easy onward connections! Time to say goodbye and hope you will join us at Love Spain for another adventure of a lifetime!
